  15. <p>     SENTENCED. MICHAEL GRIFFIN, 32, chemical worker; to life imprisonment,
  16. with a minimum of 25 years before parole; for the shooting last
  17. March 10 of Dr. David Gunn, as Gunn arrived at a clinic to perform
  18. abortions; in Pensacola, Florida. Griffin at first confessed
  19. to the crime. His lawyers later cast doubt that he had pulled
  20. the trigger but suggested that if he had, it was because Griffin
  21. had been "brainwashed" by antiabortion activists, including
  22. John Burt of Rescue America, who had shown Griffin and his wife
  23. antiabortion videotapes and dismembered fetuses. Gunn's death
  24. became an effective symbol for those who felt the antiabortion
  25. movement had grown too violent. The jury deliberated only two
  26. hours and 40 minutes.
